I have now spoken to the D.0.T. about
Mrs. Thompson. I understand from them that Mrs. Thompson has already had interviews with Captain Rice, who is in charge of the Exhibitions
Department, and with Sir Edward Crowe and that
there would be no point in arranging a further
interview with that Department. In Sir Edward
Crowe's opinion, it would be advisable for
someone in the Colonial Office to see Mrs. Thompson
purely as a matter of courtesy, though in actual
fact the D.O.T. have made it plain to her that
there is nothing they can do to help her. Perhaps,
therefore, you will let me know whether I
could write to Mrs. Thompson to the effect that
the Secretary of State is away in his constituency
and therefore unable to see her himself, and has
deputed someone in the Department to do so on
his behalf. It would be advisable for the person
who is to see her to have a word with Captain Rice
of the D.0.T. before the interview.
